In response to the recent launch of General Service Recruitment campaign for both Army and Naval Service Recruits by the Irish Defence Forces, Kilroy's College has developed a new distance learning preparation course to help candidates to achieve their best performance on the day of the competition. The General Service Recruitment campaign is now open and is looking for new recruits.

Army and Navy Recruitment
The Defence Forces have launched their Army and Naval General Service Recruitment Campaign. Candidates who apply successfully before the closing date for the competition will be required to complete the following progressive stages:
Stage 1 - Physical Fitness Tests
Stage 2 - Psychometric Tests
Stage 3 - Interview
Overview of Stages 1-3
Stage 1: Fitness Test
All candidates who meet the minimum eligibility criteria will be invited to present themselves at a Fitness Testing centre, where they will be required to complete the Defence Forces induction fitness test. This pass or fail test will require candidates to perform the following exercises:
1. Push up test - 20 push ups in 1 minute (female candidates may complete modified push ups)
2. Sit up test - 20 sit ups in 1 minute
3. Aerobic capacity test
- Male candidates: 2.4km run in no more than 11 minutes & 40 seconds
- Female candidates: 2.4km run in no more than 13 minutes & 10 seconds
Stage 2: Psychometric Tests
Upon successful completion of Stage 1 all applicants will be invited to complete Stage 2. Full details of these tests will be emailed to all successful applicants after Stage 1 is complete. Previously the online and supervised tests consisted of:
- Verbal Reasoning Test (verbal & instructional comprehension)
- Numerical Reasoning Test (numerical procedures)
Stage 3: Interview
Upon successful completion of Stage 2 candidates will be invited to attend an interview. The interview is competency based and candidates will be assessed under the following 4 competencies:
- Ability to work under pressure
- Teamwork
- Motivation
- Career Orientation
Medical & Garda Clearance
Candidates with the highest scores at the Interview stage will then be called to attend a full medical examination. In conjunction with this all candidates will be security vetted by An Garda Siochana. Candidates will be required to pass both the full medical examination and security vetting in order to be considered for induction.
When making an application for General Service Recruitment applicants should be aware that the areas of responsibility that applicants apply to are as follows:
1 Brigade - Cork Interview Centre
Cork, Carlow, Clare, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford
2 Brigade - Dublin/Curragh Interview Centre
Dublin, Cavan, Donegal, Kildare, Leitrim, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Monaghan, Roscommon, Sligo, Westmeath and Wicklow.
Where possible applicants will be facilitated to conduct fitness testing & interview at a location closest to their home.
Minimum Eligibility
- Army Service candidates must be aged between 18-25 years old at the time of their formal application for Army recruits
- Naval Service candidates must be between 18-27 years at the time of their application.
